Carina Nilsson

Director at Large

Carina Nilsson (she/her) is the General Manager of the Vancouver Island Military Museum (VIMM), where she is leading the organization into its next phase of development. Through a strategic business plan, she is guiding VIMM's transition from a completely volunteer-run society to a professionally staffed organization supported by a strong core volunteer program. She is particularly drawn to the museum’s commitment to preserving and honouring Canadian military heritage, with a focus on the lives of those who served and the human experience of war.

With 15 years of senior executive experience in the museum and arts sector, Carina has successfully driven organizational growth, improved operational efficiencies, and led numerous fund development initiatives. Her expertise in business operations and strategic planning has helped strengthen organizations and position them for long-term sustainability.

Carina values relationship-building and community engagement, which have been key to her success in developing strategic partnerships with funders, community organizations, and community members. She is passionate about protecting cultural heritage and ensuring community stories continue to be shared through educational and meaningful exhibition spaces.

Her leadership skills, extensive experience in museum and arts management, dedication to strong procedures and policies, and knowledge of collections care make her a valuable candidate for the OMMC Board of Directors.
