Sandra F. Johnson Penney
Education Committee ChairSandra has been the curator at the Canadian Military Engineers Museum and the Training Resource Centre Supervisor at the CF School of Military Engineering since 2007. She began her Canadian Military Museums career at the Shearwater Aviation Museum in 1990, later moving to the CF Military Communications and Electronics Museum and the Gagetown Military Museum as a volunteer before volunteering at the CME Museum. She has also filled several positions at the Allan Macpherson House and Park in Napanee, Ontario. She has also worked in several library systems as both a volunteer and on staff since 1981.
While her academic background is in mediaeval social history and law, Sandra has a passion for Canadian military collections management, object nomenclature and description, and works to improve her skills and knowledge through on-going training, and self-directed study.
Sandra has been involved in several mentorships in the Canadian Military Museums community and believes that the strength of the Canadian Military Museum community lies in its personnel and their ability to nurture each other’s learning and to share their diverse knowledge. Her enthusiasm for the OMMC is its mandate to foster professionalism in the Canadian Military Museum community, its ability to forge relationships between CAF Museums, non-CAF Museums, and military preservation professionals in all fields and to facilitate professional development through its formal learning sessions and its ability to connect Museums and Museum professionals with each other.
